Porsche Boxster GTS

Porsche Boxster GTS

On the heals of the announcement of the Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS, the German performance car maker is hinting at smaller, but better things. According to Jalopnik Porsche CEO, Matthias Müller, has confirmed that the new generation of the mid-engined sports cars will have a flat-4 engine.

That much we have heard rumors about for a while (well of a 4-cylinder engine), but then he threw out a huge surprise. The new Boxster and Cayman engines could be pushing 400 horsepower!

To put that into perspective the current 911 Carrera S puts out 400 horsepower. That would also be a huge power jump for the Boxster and Cayman as the just announced GTS puts out 340 horsepower in the hardtop car.

To accomplish this from a smaller engine expect plenty of wizardry using turbochargers. With their lighter weight this potentially could be a shift in the balance of power.

That is of course is unless the base 911 Carrera puts out 450 horsepower, which is very possible.
