McLaren 650S

McLaren 650S

The 2015 McLaren 650S sits in the British sports car makers lineup between the 12C and the hybrid P1. The car has caused quite a stir as interest has been so strong that most buyers would rather wait for a 650S than get a 12C now.

The new McLaren has more power than the 12C and it costs a bit more which makes it more likely to be even more exclusive. It is a supercar in every sense of the word.

It is available in a coupe or a spider version. The latter allows for open air driving when you want and hard top comfort when you don’t.

McLaren 650S Styling

The styling of the McLaren 650S is in line with the P1, at least in the front. From the straight on view it looks almost exactly like the more expensive P1, but from the rear and sides it more resembles the 12C.

The car’s lines are flowing and it has large air intakes behind the doors which lets other cars know that this machine means business. From the front the bumper, grill and headlights all combine to make some swooping lines which give the outline of the headlights the resemblance of the McLaren logo.

If you go to the back you get the exhaust pipes that are located just above the rear bumper as in the 12C. The whole look is brought up a notch by the doors that open in a gullwing / Lamborghini fashion.

McLaren 650S Interior

The interior of the 650S is an inviting yet purposeful place to be. It is a driver centric place that makes controlling the powerful sports car a pleasure.

The materials are all top notch with plenty of leather, carbon fiber and brushed metal accents. Plastic is not something that you will see while driving the 650S.

McLaren 650S Profile View

The McLaren 650S has quite a heart moving it. At the middle of this car you’ll find a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that puts out a healthy 641 horsepower.

This engine is mated with a 7-speed dual clutch semi-automatic gearbox that allows the 650S to launch from 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds and keep on going until 207 mph. However, the 0-62 mph time isn’t the most impressive thing about this supercar.

It can rocket from 0-124 mph in just 8.4 seconds. Just think of all the ’80s sports cars that would just be hitting 60 mph in that same amount of time!

The McLaren 650S Coupe starts at $265,500 and The 650S Spider starts at $280,225.

McLaren 650S Front View

The 2015 McLaren 650S is an incredible machine. It provides about nine tenths of the thrills of the more expensive P1, but in a less expensive package. Of course there is no such thing as a cheap McLaren, but if you want a bargain in the supercar world the 650S looks like a good choice.

The one car that provides close to the same performance for a lower price would be a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Both cars are great but many will go for the McLaren for its exclusivity. If you can afford a 650S you won’t be disappointed with the car.
