Porsche Recaps the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans
2014 marked the return of Porsche to the top level of competition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It had been 16 years since the German performance car maker had been at the endurance race and they had their eyes set on taking down Audi.
Ultimately, their rival won their 13th overall title and have become a dominant force in the sport. Even though Porsche didn’t see their 919 Hybrid LMP1 car cross the finish line as the victor, they made it an entertaining race.
They managed to lead late into the race, and had a great shot at winning the whole thing, until engine problems forced the leading 919 out of the competition with only 2 hours left. This opened the doors for Audi and they waltzed to a victory.
In the GT-Pro class things were a bit better as they managed a podium finish for the 911 racing machine. However, it was Aston Martin that took the class. The English sports car maker had been fighting with Porsche at the previous year’s Le Mans, until the 911s outlasted them for a one, two class win.
This video recaps all of the excitement that happened, even though they didn’t win. It also shows just how gracious they are, as they made sure to congratulate Audi on their victory.
