Ford Shelby Mustang GT350

At the LA Auto Show Ford will debut the Shelby Mustang GT350. The new higher performance car promises to have the most powerful naturally aspirated engine produced for a Ford road car ever.

You add that engine to a modern suspension system and you will get a Mustang that can truly keep up with pure sports cars. The American pony car also gets a more aerodynamic shape that will help it slice through the air a bit faster.

From the front the new Shelby Mustang GT350 has a menacing look. With it’s squinting headlights, angular grille and aggressive front spoiler it looks ready for a fight.

From the side you see a traditional Mustang look with its molded door panels and the fastback roof design. It gives it a look of a car designed for speed instead of the big and bulky look of some past Mustangs.

From the rear everything is tidy and simple. Clean lines finish the car off with the taillights highlighted buy a 3-D shape and the black accent.

On the inside of the GT350 you get a purpose driven interior. It features Recaro sports seats that have a unique fabric. The seats were designed to be comfortable for daily use and yet supportive on the track.

The driver gets a flat bottom steering wheel and chrome finishes have been removed or darkened to make sure glare from the sun never bothers the driver. The gauges have also been upgraded to reflect the type of performance that this machine is capable of.

At the heart of the Shelby Mustang GT350 is a 5.2-liter V8 that pumps out over 500 horsepower and over 400 foot-pounds of torque. Ford hasn’t released performance figures but expect a 0-60 mph in the 4 second range and a top speed around 180 mph.

To get all that high revving power to the ground a six-speed manual transmission is used, which makes it more of a driver’s car. It all goes through a limited slip differential so you can keep getting grip when you punch it.

On the car’s suspension are plenty more changes. Like the other new Mustangs it has independent rear suspension, but it uses MagneRide dampers to allow for near-instant ride adjustments to help it corner better. This helps make it a very good track car.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but expect it to come closer to the release date.

Shelby GT350

With the 2016 Shelby Mustang GT350 Ford has finally created a true modern performance car. It is powerful and yet can go around a corner. It will face some stiff competition from the Dodge Challenger SRT and Chevrolet Camaro Z28, but it looks like it will put up a good fight. The modern muscle cars are becoming more complete and are becoming an option for those that in the past would only look at a true sports car.
