2016 Maserati Levante Rendering

2016 Maserati Levante

Ferrari has said that they won’t be building an SUV to compete with the Lamborghini Urus. However, another Fiat owned Italian performance car maker, Maserati, will be entering the market.

In 2011 the automaker unveiled the Kubang concept at the Frankfurt Autoshow. Soon rumors started that they would be building an SUV and they have since confirmed this. The Levante will be the official name and some details have leaked out about the car that is said to debut at the 2016 Detroit Motorshow.

Speculation about the Maserati Levante has the base model powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine found in the Ghibli S which offers 404 horsepower. The crossover is expected to also be offered with a turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 power plant from the Quattroporte GTS. Expect for a power output of 523 horsepower.

The interior quality should be similar to the Ghibli. The designs may be somewhat different, but the materials, such as leather trim, are expected to be the same.

Just how much will this high performance SUV cost? The price is expected to start at $80,000.

Based on the Kubang concept, spy shots and leaked sketches our friends at TopSpeed have made the above renderings. This is what they think the new Maserati may look like, let us know what you think of it in the comments.
