Classic Race Cars in Monterey

Classic Race Cars in Monterey

It is hard to believe it but Monterey Car Week is only about a month away. The yearly gathering of all things automotive that leads up to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the place to be for any automotive enthusiast.

All of the festivities start on August 7th with historic race cars lining Alvarado Street starting at 5:00pm. This is a rare chance to stand next to many historic racing machines and to even get a chance to talk to their owners.

While seeing these competition machines up close parked is very cool, later in the week it all gets much better.

With the support of the Old Monterey Business Association, the show features a select group of classic race cars that are competing in both the Monterey Pre-Reunion, Aug. 8 and 9, and the week’s cornerstone event Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Under CHP escort, this band of historic race cars will depart the race track, drive down Highway 68 and finish their journey in beautiful Old Monterey where they will be on display for the community.

Among the 30 diverse race cars planning to participate are a 1956 Lotus Eleven, 1956 Alfa Romeo, 1966 Shelby GT350H, 1932 Alfa Romeo Monza and 1987 Corvette Trans-Am.

Laguna Seca will come alive on August 13-16 at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and you can see some important race cars doing what they were meant to do. The cars are selected for their historical significance, authenticity and period-correctness. They are divided into 15 classes, based on the type of car, displacement and era of origin. This all adds up to an event that any car lover should attend at least once in their life.
