David Higgins’ Subaru WRX STI Rally Car
Winning is difficult in any sport and motorsport may be even more difficult as vehicle failure and crashes can quickly take you out of a race. In the world of Rally the potential for incidents is even higher as the variety of terrain can lead to an accident.
For Subaru’s David Higgins this has not been an issue so far this season. He hasn’t lost a competition and and his latest victory came at the Ojibwe Forests Rally in northern Minnesota. In securing the win Higgins, with co-driver Craig Drew, had to fend off their Subaru teammates Travis Pastrana and co-driver Chrissie Beavis.
The reigning Rally America Champion is just one win away from an undefeated season. The victory marks Highins seventh straight of the season.
The final round will see his 2015 Subaru WRX STI rally car taking on the Lake Superior Performance Rally on October 16th and 17th. If successful he will be the first driver to do so since rally legend and current Subaru team manager John Buffum completed the last perfect season in the USA in 1987.
“It’s a combination of everything: the work our team puts in, the work we put in, the car, everything,” said Higgins after the win. “A lot of it is earned confidence as well: like (Friday night) we lost a lot of time to a puncture, then pushed pretty hard and got back in the lead and had the confidence to do it. It’s been awesome.”
We will be following the final race of the season closely to see if a perfect season will happen in 2015.
