Lamborghini Huracan GT3

Lamborghini Huracan GT3

Lamborghini has made some very good and crazy supercars. However, what they don’t have is a history of racing success. Unlike Ferrari and Porsche the raging bull has never been big on motorsport. The priority of providing customer racing teams with a competition machine became a top priority in recent years.

The Gallardo and now Huracan have been competing in the one make Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series. This has given the Italian performance car maker the chance to work on improving their race car before having them take on other makes starting last year in Europe. Now they are taking it to our shores with one of their biggest tests yet at Daytona for the Rolex 24.

Lamborghini will be represented by five entrants in the GTD class. That is the most of any manufacture in the class. The V10 powered Huracan GT3 has a very good chance to be competitive, but a lot can (and will) happen in a 24 hour endurance race.

The five raging bulls will compete this year in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The racing version of the mid-engined supercar is already off to a very good start.

Just how good? Well, if qualifying at Daytona is a sign of how the race will go, then the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 will do just fine come race time. The Number 28 car piloted by Konrad Motorsport driver Marc Bassen managed to qualify second in the GTD class, so it will start in the front row of the very competitive class.

“We’re quite happy with the result: P2, first row, is a good position for the 24 hours,” Basseng said. “The mechanics did an awesome job to prepare the car. The conditions are over the limit, so much aquaplaning, but I found a good lap and did a quite good lap time. I’m confident for the race, the driver lineup is good and reliable and also the team has demonstrated to be well prepared for a tough race like this.”
