Bill Gates Mugshot, His Porsche 911 Turbo and the Default Outlook Profile Image
In the late 1970’s Microsoft was located in Albuquerque, New Mexico instead of Redmond, Washington. At the time the company’s co-Founder, Bill Gates, was fairly young and had a Porsche 911.
In these early years Mr. Gates had a few run-in’s with the law with one happening in 1977. While details are a bit sketchy the story is that Bill Gates was arrested for speeding, running a red light and driving without a license. That was when his famous mugshot was taken.
Microsoft has since become a very successful company and Mr. Gates, while already doing well financially in the 70’s, is now extremely wealthy. It also appears that someone at Microsoft has a sense of humor about the company’s co-founder and the silhouette of the above mugshot appears to be the basis for the default profile image in Outlook. Millions of business professionals use the email client each day and this image is seen often when contacting people.
It has been reported that the above pictured Porsche 911 Turbo was the car that Bill Gates drove when he was arrested. However, the 911 Turbo is a 1979 model and the arrest happened in 1977, so it is safe to assume that a different 911 was driven.
Bill appears to be a fan of the marque as he has owned quite a few 911s in the past, but he and co-founder Paul Allen where also instrumental in getting the Porsche 959 to our shores. The 959 was never allowed to be legally sold in the US, but thanks to the show and display law it legally made its way here (before this a few where brought over through the grey market).
If you use Outlook for your email client then you will no longer look at the default profile image the same. Now you’ll think of Bill Gates speeding and getting arrested in his 911. Try to focus on work now.
