1980 Porsche Bisimoto 911BR
Monterey Car Week is fast approaching and the lineup of cars for sale keeps getting better. One such example is the above pictured 1980 Porsche Bisimoto 911BR that will be auctioned off by Mecum in Monterey. The car looks exquisite and when you add in the fact that all of the proceeds will go to help the Boys Republic, this 911 could fetch quite a good sum.
The car started life as a 1980 911, but it has been back dated to resemble a car from the 1969-1973 era. Legendary actor and car guy, Steve McQueen was the muse for amazing build.
Somewhat similar to a harder core Singer Porsche 911, the 911BR build was spared no expense. The car was painted in Slate Grey, McQueen’s favorite color, and is accented by Fuchs-inspired alloy wheels. It also has a lowered stance with a 1.5 degree tilt toward the front, which helps give it a menacing appearance.
Powering the Porsche is a 3.6-liter flat-six power plant with an intake manifold. Sequential fuel injectors and custom fabricated pulse chamber exhaust system. The result is a 316 horsepower unit powering a car that only weighs 2,400 pounds. Needless to say it is a rocket.
Inside is all business with classic racing seats and a spartan interior. The rear suspension has been updated with a custom made coilover arrangement.
The Boys Republic is an organization that helps troubled teens and assists them in making positive life decisions. Steve McQueen was helped by the group, so it is fitting that a car made in his honor would help the charity.
The Mecum Monterey auction starts on August 18th and goes until the 20th at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa – Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California.
