Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius

We don’t usually talk about boring cars like the Toyota Prius, for obvious reasons. However, when I saw the rear end of a new Prius I thought, wow, I didn’t think the styling could get worse than it was. Then I saw the front and I just kept yelling, “my eyes, my eyes!”

Some things cannot be unseen, and the image was burned into my eye sockets causing me great physical pain. The redesigned front looks like a monster in a Godzilla movie that was based on a catfish. At nights I have nightmares of it as if I had eaten bad sushi.

Of course the Prius is not marketed to those who care about what a car looks like. Folks who purchase the hybrid car are merely interested in good gas mileage and not much more. I will give the Japanese automaker credit for trying to make the car look unique, but why couldn’t it be unique and good looking.

Toyota does have the ability to make a good looking car. Just look at the Toyota GT-86 (formerly the Scion FR-S in the US) or the Lexus LC500 (for anyone unaware, Lexus is owned by Toyota). Unfortunately, we’ll have to see a lot of these cars as I predict Prius sales will stay strong. The question is if the eyesore that is the new Prius will result in a class action lawsuit for burning people’s eyes.

The Prius has always been ugly, but I agree that it is a new low.

Love the Prius, especially this new styling….plan on trading in my ’12 for this new ’17; I swap out driving my Prius with my ’15 Porsche Cayman GT4.
