Mercedes-AMG C GT Coupe
Mercedes-AMG celebrates 50 years this year. AMG started as an external tuner of the Mercedes-Benz marquee before Mercedes eventually purchased them and brought them in-house.
To celebrate half a century of the two being under the same umbrella they have unveiled the Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe. In the AMG GT lineup the C will sit between the S and the R.
“With the AMG GT C Coupe, we are now expanding our portfolio of sports cars to six models plus the AMG GT3 customer sport racing car. In fewer than three years, the second vehicle to be developed by us entirely in-house has grown into a family, offering a highly dynamic driving experience in a variety of forms. We are kicking off our anniversary year with the exclusive “Edition 50″ model of the new AMG GT C Coupe. We are also taking this opportunity to refine the AMG GT and AMG GT S, both visually and technically,” says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
The AMG GT S pumps out 515 horsepower, but the GT C takes that to 550 horses. The C has just 27 horsepower less than the very potent R. 0-60 mph comes in just 3.6 seconds which is just a tenth of second slower than the R. Top speed in the C Coupe is 197 mph which is just 1 mph less than the R.
Needless to say the new AMG GT C is plenty potent. It was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and more details, including price will be released closer to production. Our guess would put the final starting price around $135,000 once it is announced.
