McLaren 650S GT3
Coming into the Bathurst 12 Hours the defending Liqui-Moly team hoped that their McLaren 650S GT3 would manage a repeat victory. But as we all know endurance racing can be a cruel mistress.
The race started out with great difficulty for the #1 650S GT3 as the team quickly fell back in the second hour with engine issues. The problem cost three laps making a top finish unlikely.
Some very good driving for the next ten hours got the McLaren back in the hunt. However, making a top five finish still looked unlikely.
On the final sprint for the finish line the 650S GT3 managed to get into the fourth place position, putting the team just off the podium. After being so far back the fact that they finished just one lap back and less than a minute off the podium is impressive. Had the race been a 24 hour competition it is possible that they could have made it back to challenge for the lead. Even so it was quite an effort to keep fighting.
