Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE
If you’ve every driven a Chevrolet Camaro with a 1LE package then you know what a difference the option makes. The Camaro ZL1 1LE takes the American pony car to levels that rival many much more expensive cars.
With all the 1LE aerodynamic bits, it has a very purposeful look. The front fins alone make it look like it belongs on the track instead of the road.
Combine the 1LE package with the 650 horsepower ZL1 and you have a car that can lap GM’s test track in 3 seconds faster than the standard Camaro ZL1. The changes in the 1LE package include, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R summer-only tires, a Carbon Fiber rear wing and an advanced race-derived suspension with ride height adjustment.
“The track-focused 1LE package offers progressive levels of performance across the Camaro lineup, from the V6 1LE to the SS 1LE,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “But with the new ZL1 1LE, the progression takes a quantum leap — this is the ultimate track-day Camaro.”
The ZL1 1LE has gone on a diet over the standard ZL1. Weight has be reduced by 60 lbs through lighter wheels and dampers as well as the used of a thinner rear glass window. Weight savings was also achieved through the use of a fixed-back rear seat. 60 lbs may not seem like much, but on the track it can make a huge difference in lap times.
“The new Camaro ZL1 1LE offers the supreme track experience,” said Mark Dickens, executive director, Chevrolet Performance Variants, Parts and Motorsports Engineering. “It’s the pinnacle of Camaro performance and advances the 1LE’s nearly 30-year legacy of uncompromising, track-tailored capability.”
