Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carrera GT

If you love the automobile then you likely have a dream car list. These cars likely include plenty of expensive high performance gas powered vehicles. The key word there is gasoline. On the list there may be an electric or hybrid mixed in, but chances are that you mainly have V8’s, V10’s, V12’s or flat-sixes.

If you have been hoping for a gasoline powered automobile then the clock may be ticking to purchase your dream car. It is officially time to cash in your 401K, sell your stocks, sell your Bitcoin and use your kid’s college fund before it isn’t an option.

For people in France you only have until 2040 to buy that coveted gas powered vehicle. The European country has elected to no longer allow the sale of fossil fuel automobiles by 2040. That may sound like many years from now, but so did the year 2000 in 1980.

However, if you live in the United States why should you care about a law in France? Well, California is seriously thinking of passing a similar law to France. If the proposed legislation is passed Californians would not be able to purchase or sell gasoline powered cars by 2040 (depending on the legislation that gets passed all this could start as soon as 2024).

This hits home because we live in California and that gives us a limited amount of time to work on our dream car list. We currently are lacking a few million dollars needed to complete the list (if anyone wants to donate a million or so to the cause, let us know in the comments right away).

Even if you want a more attainable car like a Porsche 911 Carrera (996) or a “Foxbody” Ford Mustang, you may want to pull the trigger sooner rather than later. Not only are the prices currently right for these cars, but if laws get passed preventing people from buying and selling these cars, they will quickly become harder to get.

Cars powered by fuel from dinosaurs are becoming dinosaurs themselves. More and more companies are thinking of moving to all-electric vehicles including performance car makers like Porsche. This in and of itself will make collectors clamor over desirable gas powered vehicles.

Now those of you in places like Texas, Alabama or Florida probably think that you have nothing to worry about. This may be true while the Trump administration is in office. However, if President Donald Trump looses re-election then there is a good chance that a similar effort, like what California is thinking of passing, could become federal law.

We can argue if laws preventing the purchasing of gas powered cars is a good or bad thing, but it could change the scene of the open road forever. While we still have some time until this potentially becomes a reality everywhere, now is the time to start preparing to buy that one ride that you have your heart set on owning. Just be prepared to not be allowed to sell it depending on how any potential law is written.

Let us know what you would buy and if you think that gas powered cars will be outlawed worldwide in the comments.
