Chevy LS6 V8 Powered Porsche 944
Just the thought of putting a Chevy V8 in a Porsche is enough to make any purist sick. For most of us a Porsche just isn’t a Porsche without an engine from the German performance car maker (or at least from VW / Audi).
The Porsche 944 Turbo is already a pretty fast car. Especially, when you consider the time period that the 944 Turbo was produced.
Sure the 944 Turbo is fast with some years able to go 0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. But as time has gone by this is less impressive than it once was. So some folks have looked for inexpensive ways to make the 944 even faster.
This is especially true of a Porsche 944 with a blown engine. The 944 is still undervalued and as such you can get a decent looking one that needs a replacement engine for very little cash. This includes 944 Turbos which come with suspension and brake upgrades.
This has led to some owners putting a Chevy sourced V8. A kit is available to put a Chevy V8 in the 944 and folks have been able to get over 400 horsepower to the rear wheels after the swap.
As wrong as it may seem to most Porsche enthusiasts, there is no denying that the 944 becomes a rocket with an American V8 up front. This is thanks to both the high horsepower output and the relatively low approximately 2,800 lbs. dry weight.
The swap will cost a few thousand dollars, but how much is it worth? In this video a Porsche 944 Turbo with an LS6 V8 swap is taken to CarMax to see what they would pay for the custom 944 Turbo.
