California’s AB 1824 – What You Can Do To Help Reverse The Crazy Aftermarket Exhaust Law

Aftermarket Exhaust

Aftermarket Exhaust

In June of 2018 the California Assembly voted to approve the bill AB 1824. Among other things in this bill, it changed the way that police officers are to handle pulling over someone with a modified exhaust system.

Before January 1st, 2019 (when the bill went into affect), if you were pulled over with an aftermarket muffler that was thought to be over 95 decibels the officer could give you a fixit ticket. This allowed you to take care of the excessive noise and get it signed off or to talk to another officer if you thought the first was unfair.

Now if you get a ticket it is an automatic $1,000 fine. You also need to take the car to a state referee to prove that it has been put back to stock before you can register the vehicle with the DMV. You can take it to court, but that is a lot of extra hassle to try to fight something that had been seen as a minor violation.

When talking about supercars the term affordable is quite relative. For some $100,000 is a reasonable price, for others $50,000 is a nice price. For most about $30,000 or less is the within reach price range.

A new 2018 Audi R8 starts at $164,900 which puts it well above most people’s budget. Fortunately, for supercar enthusiasts on a budget, depreciation has hit the early R8 pretty hard.

Porsche 912 Targa

We love cars, but are they a good investment? Should you dump your stock portfolio and plan to use classic cars for your retirement? Why do so many wealthy people invest in cars? These questions and questions like them are all over the internet, but is it a good idea to buy an automobile now to hope you can sell it for a large profit at a later date?

The answer to if cars are a good investment is more complex than it may first appear. We know that with a few exceptions a modern car will keep depreciating for about 30 years and in some cases longer. However, normally after this depreciation values will start to stabilize and then follow an upward trend.

How Calexit Could Affect The Automotive Industry

By   January 30, 2017

California

California

Roughly half the people that voted in this past U.S. election voted against Donald Trump. As you know now President Trump won the Electoral College, but lost the popular vote. This outcome has not sat well with some and many well known actors had already threatened to move to Canada if Mr. Trump won the election.

Many of these folks live in California and most have not as of yet moved to our neighbor to the north. The fact that people are having to move has raised a different possibility. One that involves the Golden State no longer being part of the Union. The petition for succession is being called Calexit (taking a similar name as the successful Brexit). There are seemingly impossible odds for California to leave the United States, but what if it worked?
