The new Ford GT is an incredible hybrid supercar. Unlike past Ford GT models with their large V8’s, at the center of the new GT is a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine pumping out 647 horsepower. With all that power in a relatively lightweight performance machine it makes a perfect drive on a winding road or the track.

The Ford GT recently won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, fittingly besting Ferrari. This happened 50 years after the Ford GT40 Mark II driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon managed a victory in the legendary 24 hour race. The win was part of a 1-2-3 podium sweep.

In doing so Ford had beaten Ferrari which was no easy task at the time. Because of this the Ford GT40 is know as the “Ferrari Killer”. To commemorate the 1966 victory the American automaker is releasing the 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition.

Over 6,000 Apply To Purchase 1 of 500 New Ford GTs

The new Ford GT may not be powered by a V8 engine, but it still has plenty of folks hoping to drive one. The initial run of the next generation GT will only offer 500 cars.

Of these 6,056 applications have been received by Ford. The American automaker will review what they have received and will then notify the fortunate people that will get to purchase one.
