1968 Ferrari 330 GTS
We are just a couple of weeks away from Monterey Car Week. The time when automotive enthusiasts migrate to automotive Mecca and check out some beautiful machines. For many it is about looking at their dream cars, but for some it can turn into a shopping trip.
There are quite a few classic and exotic vehicles that hit various auction blocks over the week. While the majority of cars at most auctions will be American muscle cars or hot rods, there are also some premium cars available. One of our favorite performance nameplates is Ferrari and it will have a good presence during the week.

The Porsche 917 is One of Our Top 5 Endurance Race Cars
Endurance racing really tests all aspects of a car. It tests how well a car can hold up over a long period of time as well as fuel economy and speed. In races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans it also tests how a driving team can handle things like driving at night while tired.
Below is our list of the top 5 endurance race cars of all time.
- Porsche 917
The Porsche 917 is possibly the best race car ever made (in any type of racing). The mid engined 12-cylinder race car was able to hit 240 mph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the early 70’s. The 917 was the car that took Porsche to the next level in racing.
- Ford GT40
The Ford GT40 is known as the Ferrari killer and for good reason, it was the car that finally took down Ferrari at Le Mans in the 60’s. After beating Ferrari it started to dominate Le Mans winning the legendary race four years in a row.
- Porsche 911
Racing variants of the 911 have been some of the most successful race cars in the world. Variants of the rear-engined sports car (and in the case of the GT1 mid-engined) have had great success with many class or overall victories.
- Ferrari 330
In the early ’60s Ferrari dominates the 24 Hours of Le Mans. They won every race from 1960 through 1965. The 330 was a dominant car that seemed impossible to beat, that is until the Ford GT40 came on the screen.
- Audi R18
In recent years Audi has dominated Le Mans. In doing so they have also proven that alternative fuels have a lot of potential in endurance racing.
