When Porsche first released the Porsche Boxster as a 1997 model year vehicle, it had a wonderful flat-six sitting in the middle. In the 2005 model year, the Cayman joined the lineup and once again a flat-six was sitting in the middle.

All was well until the 718 Boxster and Cayman models where released with a turbocharged flat-four engine. While when pushed the new power plant outperformed the outgoing six cylinder, the characteristic flat-six whale was missed by most enthusiasts.

The only option for a mid-engined naturally aspirated flat-six in a 718 has been the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. While great cars, the premium over the base and S model is out of reach for many.

For those that can’t quite afford a GT4 or Spyder, Porsche will now offer another model trims featuring a flat-six.

Porsche 718 Boxster GTS

The Porsche Boxster has come a very long way. The early 986 generation car featured a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-six pumping out 201 horsepower. 0-60 mph was a claimed 6.7 seconds by Porsche, but multiple magazines of the time managed times of 6 seconds flat. At the time the Boxster was the entry level Porsche with a large horsepower gap between the Boxster and the 911 to make sure the mid-engined Boxster didn’t step on the 911’s toes.

Fast forward to today and the the 718 Boxster is no longer the entry level model (that now belongs to the Cayman) and the base Boxster is able to launch from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The pinnacle of the 718 lineup (at least until a new 718 Boxster Spyder is released) is the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS and this makes a huge jump in both performance and price over the base model.

Porsche 911 GTS Lineup

The Porsche 911 GTS has been called the best value for a 911. It sits between the 911 Carrera S and the GT3 in the lineup and offers plenty of options as standard that would cause a Carrera S to cost more than the GTS. Porsche has expanded the 991.2 model lineup of the 911 to include a new GTS model.

The 911 GTS is available as a Carrera GTS (rear-wheel drive) and Carrera 4 GTS (all-wheel drive). It is available in coupe, cabriolet and targa forms.

Mecum Anaheim Classic And Collector Car Auction Takes In Over $13 Million

By   November 19, 2015

Ford GT

A 2005 Ford GT was the Top Seller at Anaheim Auction

Just a few days ago (November 12th – 14th) Mecum had their classic and collector car auction in Anaheim, California. The auction was very successful and saw 416 cars sold which totaled $13,853,225 in sales.

The auction featured some wonderful foreign and domestic automobiles. The top seller was a 2005 Ford GT that sold for $270,000. That’s not bad for a car that just 10 years ago sold new for $149,995. Keep an eye on these Ford GT prices as now may be the time to buy before prices skyrocket (they are already high, but at this rate they could double in just a few years time).
