The above pictured Aston Martin Vantage GTE Art Car has a livery that is the creation of artist Tobias Rehberger. He appears to have taken his inspiration from a TV test pattern. For those of you who haven’t seen such a thing we have put an example below and just tell us that the designs don’t look alike.

The #97 car will be difficult to miss on the famed Circuit de la Sarthe. It will be interesting to see how it looks in motion, although people with certain types of Epilepsy may need to keep from looking at it for too long.

Three Designers Will Turn A 2014 Corvette Into An Art Car

Three Designers Will Turn A 2014 Corvette Into An Art Car

Can cars be art? Many have said “no” because art has no purpose except itself. However, many artists have turned cars into rolling art works. Examples of this include the BMW Art Cars that were made by artist such as Andy Warhol.

At the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) Gala Fundraiser that is happening tonight, the three designers pictured above will be turning a 2014 Corvette Stingray into an art car. The designers are all employed by GM and are:

Casey Swanseger, 30, a creative designer and graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art
Tyler Mars, 28, digital sculptor and a graduate of Detroit’s College for Creative Studies (CCS)
Haneif Katebi, 25, creative designer, sculptor and a graduate of Detroit’s College for Creative Studies

The Corvette will be wearing a white vinyl wrap to make it easier to paint and the painting will take about 45 minutes while onlookers watch it being created.

“Creativity is the basis of everything in life, from fine arts to innovation, from design to manufacturing,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of Global Design and honorary chairman of the MOCAD gala. “What better way to demonstrate inspiration and creativity than by having these young GM designers, who helped create the new Corvette Stingray, transform it into an art car during this event.”

“There is a lot of creative energy in the city and helping our youth harness it early is essential to a vibrant Detroit and museum,” said MOCAD Executive Director Elysia Borowy-Reeder. “In the past year, MOCAD’s Teen Council, workshops, teacher K-12 advisory group, and student docent programs have made contemporary art and design accessible to nearly 12,000 youth.”

We look forward to seeing the finished piece of art.

First BMW Art Car To Be On Display St Amelia Island

The Very First BMW Art Car will be on Display at the Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance

The Very First BMW Art Car will be on Display at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance

The annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is one of the top car shows in the world. Pebble Beach is pretty much the only other concours that over-shadows the show.

One of the highlights of this year’s show is guaranteed to be the very first BMW Art Car. The car that has a paint scheme designed by artist Alexander Calder, will lead the class of BMW 3.0 CSLs. The Art Cars are very important racing machines to the company’s Motorsport history and as such they are important and valuable cars.

Along with the first Art Car there will be plenty of other great cars, including a McLaren F1, plenty of Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs and many other makes and historically important cars. If you are on the east coast then Amelia Island is the best concours on your side of the United States. So, don’t miss it (although if you do miss it, we will make sure to post many updates of all the major events right here).
