Video: Porsche Cayman GTS On Road And Track

By   May 26, 2014

Porsche Cayman GTS

Porsche Cayman GTS

The Porsche Cayman GTS is the most powerful mid-engined sports car that the German performance car maker currently produces, outside of the 918 Spyder. Once the Cayman GT4 comes out that will be the hard nose Cayman that we all have waited for, but the GTS is one of the best cars out there for both track and street.

Thanks to its mid-engined layout it is a very well balanced car. Where the 911 has a huge rear weight bias and requires plenty of engineering magic to help it handle more neutrally, the Cayman doesn’t need all the extra engineering thanks to its engine placement.

The GTS adds a bit more horsepower over the S model and it comes with more standard equipment. This means you get things like the Sports Chrono package included in the base package.

This video from Autocar features the Porsche Cayman GTS being reviewed on the road and track. It goes over all of the car’s pros and cons (if any can be found) and gives a sense of what the high performance sports car is like to drive. It also asks the important question of, is the GTS worth buying over an S model.

Video: 887 HP 94 MPG Porsche 918 Spyder Keeps Up With Walter Rohrl

Porsche 918 Spyder is Green and Crazy Fast

Porsche 918 Spyder is Green and Crazy Fast

Just how fast can a hybrid be? I know that when most of us think of hybrids images of Toyota Priuses come to mind. Fortunately, cars like the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari are turning this preconception on its head.

After all the incredibly green 918 Spyder can go almost 20 miles on a battery charge and then can achieve 94 MPG in hybrid mode. It is also capable of putting out up to 887 horsepower when the electric motors combine with the powerful mid-mounted 4.6-liter V8 engine.

According to Porsche the 918 is the future of the sports car. If that is true, then one day the average sports car will be capable of a 6 minute and 57 second Nurburgring lap time (at least if you put a very good race driver behind the wheel). So then just how bright does the future look?

To find out watch this video of the Porsche 918 Spyder being driven on the track. In the footage it is following a new 911 Turbo S (991) driven by the great Walter Rohrl. The 918 has a journalist behind the wheel yet it is so capable that it has no problem keeping up with the legend.

If you have the money then you too can look like you have a lot more talent that you actually have. The car really is just that good.

Now to just wait for the Top Gear episode where it will race the McLaren P1 and we can see which is the better hybrid supercar. Oh and if the 918 wins Jeremy Clarkson will change his name to Jennifer.

Video: Corvette Stingray Goes Against The Porsche 911, Audi R8 And Jaguar F-Type

Corvette Stingray Takes on the Porsche 911 Carrera S, Audi R8, Jaguar F-Type

The new C7 Corvette Stingray is a lot of car for the money. It provides huge amounts of power and on the road a good ride.

We know from Chris Harris that it isn’t always as composed on a track as the Porsche 911 Carrera S, but this isn’t as noticeable on the road. Chris came to the conclusion that the 911 was worth the higher premium, but that the American sports car was still very good and had more available power.

In this video Autocar tests the new Corvette against some of the best cars out of Europe. They compare it against the 991 Carrera S for acceleration and braking which the findings appear to match what Chris Harris experienced. Then it is put up against the Jaguar F-Type to compare the sound and how much fun the driving experience is. Finally it is compared to the R8 for its composure.

While we aren’t sure if they compared it against all the strengths of each European car, it is still interesting to see how much closer the new Corvette is to its rivals across the pond.

Video: Alfa Romeo 4C Driven On The Track

By   September 25, 2013

Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo 4C

Yesterday, we shared a video of Chris Harris driving the Alfa Romeo 4C on the road and on the track. In his usual style he did some nice drifts of the lightweight Italian sports car. The highly anticipated 4C that looks to return to Alfa Romeo’s roots is being tested by the top publications now, so there are a number of videos that are coming out reviewing the car.

This video is of the review of the 4C done by Autocar. It features footage of the car being tested on the track and gives an overview of the good and bad of the car. Overall all the reviews for the little Alfa have been very good so far. The car is very similar to a Lotus Exige in performance and for being lightweight.

Check out the video and then let us know your thoughts on it in the comments.

Video: New Porsche 911 Turbo S Road Test

By   September 16, 2013

Porsche 911 Turbo S

Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Porsche 911 Turbo S (991) is the quickest turbocharged 911 yet. The car is able to rocket you from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and keep going to a top speed of 198 mph. However, we all know that Porsche tends to be conservative on their performance specifications, so a 0 to 60 mph time of around 2.5 seconds seems likely possible.

This video is of an initial road review of the 991 Turbo S by Autocar. The footage features some good shots of the very fast rear-engine sports car driving on some nice roads. It also talks about what is new in the car and points out both the good and the bad (fortunately there isn’t a lot of bad).

Check out this video and then let us know what you think of it in the comments.
