Bentley Continental GT3s at Bathurst 12 Hours

This past weekend’s Bathurst 12 Hours was a strong race for British contenders. A McLaren 650S GT3 took home the victory in the Pro class and the Bentley Continental GT3 showed its potential with a podium finish.

For Bentley it was the Number 10 Team M-Sport car that had the most success at the Mount Panorama circuit. The car managed to lead the race for over an hour before it came back in the pack to finish in third place.

First 2017 Bentley Bentayga Rolls Off Assembly Line

The name Bentley is well known for high-end luxury cars. The English automaker is also known for the high performance Continental GT. What you will not see in the lineup is an off-road capable vehicle, at least until now.

The segment is a huge one for the luxury market, but there is a shortage of ultra high-end options. The Bentayga will seek to meet the underrepresented market and the first example of the vehicle that has a top speed of 187 mph just rolled of the assembly line.

Bentley will have a good presence at Monterey Car Week this next week. The British luxury car maker will display historic, current and concept cars at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the surrounding events.

Showing what the future holds they will be displaying the EXP 10 Speed 6. The concept car that shows the styling direction of future Bentleys will be viewable at two events during the week. It will be at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering and at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on the Concept Lawn.

The above pictured Bentley “Blue Train” has quite a story. We’ve seen Top Gear races between a train and a car, but the “Blue Train” may be the car that started it all.

It was this legendary Bentley that 85 years ago raced an express train. At the time Captain Woolf Barnato, then Chairman of Bentley Motors, was staying in Cannes when he accepted a wager that not only could he beat the Calais-MediterranĂ©e Express (or “Blue Train”) back to Calais, but that he could be at his club in London before the train even reached the English Channel.

The Nurburgring is one of the toughest and most famous racing tracks in the world. For Bentley it is the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race held at the circuit that is the next challenge for their Continental GT3 racing program.

The British automaker may be known for its high-end luxury cars, but it has quite a racing history. The GT3 looks to continue in the footsteps of the Bentleys that came before it.
