Porsche Boxster

Porsche Boxster (986)

Early Porsche Boxsters (986) are now extremely affordable. Just how affordable? You can find plenty of early Boxsters for as low as $5,000 for a car in good condition.

With the mid-engined sports car being such a cheap Porsche many owners with lower budgets will be purchasing the vehicles (while they are less expensive to buy, they still have somewhat higher repair costs). In an effort to help keep more of these Boxsters on the road we will detail common maintenance procedures on the car over the coming months. This will show how easy (or hard in some cases) maintenance can be completed by an owner for a fraction of the cost.

Today we are going to give a detailed step by step guide about how to change the front brake pads on a 986 Boxster. The procedure will be similar on newer Boxsters, Caymans and 911s with some small changes depending on the model and year.

If you are going to change just your front brake pads make sure to measure your brake rotors and make sure they are within specifications. We’ll cover that in a future article about brake rotor replacement.

Upgrading Corvette Brakes, Wheels and Spark Plugs

Upgrading Corvette Brakes, Wheels and Spark Plugs

In this installment of Sports Car U we are posting a video about brake, wheel and spark plugs upgrades on a C6 Corvette.

With the new C7 Corvette Stingray about to go on sale, the C6 will soon become a more affordable option. These are great sports cars that provide a lot of power. Even with all the power already available you can add a supercharger or turbocharger to the V8 monster and give it true supercar performance.

If you decide to tune your Corvette there are a couple of things that need to be remembered, but are often forgotten. With more power you will need to upgrade the brakes. This includes using better brake discs as well as better brake calipers and pads. This will help you stop safely if you put your foot down hard on the gas.

Once you upgrade your brakes, you’ll also want to make sure you have plenty of grip and have tires that can handle high speeds (especially if you want to take it on the track). This is also a good time to upgrade your rims, if you want a look other than stock.

Lastly, you want to make sure that the engine gets the best spark available, so a spark plug upgrade is a good idea. Modern spark plug’s advanced design offer advantages over traditional plugs and help ensure your fuel is burned fully.

In this video Stacey David show you how to upgrade your brakes, wheels and spark plugs. Check out the video and then let use know of any questions in the comments.
