California’s AB 1824 – What You Can Do To Help Reverse The Crazy Aftermarket Exhaust Law

Aftermarket Exhaust

Aftermarket Exhaust

In June of 2018 the California Assembly voted to approve the bill AB 1824. Among other things in this bill, it changed the way that police officers are to handle pulling over someone with a modified exhaust system.

Before January 1st, 2019 (when the bill went into affect), if you were pulled over with an aftermarket muffler that was thought to be over 95 decibels the officer could give you a fixit ticket. This allowed you to take care of the excessive noise and get it signed off or to talk to another officer if you thought the first was unfair.

Now if you get a ticket it is an automatic $1,000 fine. You also need to take the car to a state referee to prove that it has been put back to stock before you can register the vehicle with the DMV. You can take it to court, but that is a lot of extra hassle to try to fight something that had been seen as a minor violation.

Ferrari California Styling Details

Ferrari California

Ferrari California

The Ferrari California is the perfect Italian grand tourer for enjoying the sun in the Golden State. The car is the first prancing horse to have a V8 engine located in the front. It is also the first to have a folding metal roof to allow for open-aired driving while having the security of a hard top.

The California just begs to be driven quickly on the open road. It eats away the miles like not much else and when you decide to step a bit harder on the gas, it will fly past most cars on the road.

We caught this Ferrari California as it was resting in the parking lot outside our office. So, we had to get some footage of the styling of this great machine. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to talk with the owner, but we will keep an eye out for him and see if we can score a ride in it for a future video.

5 Reasons It Rocks To Drive A Ferrari

Nothing is Quite Like Driving a Ferrari

There are many great makes out there, but few are quite as exclusive as Ferrari. To own a car wearing the prancing horse is something that only a relative few are able to say. The car is a high performance status symbol that shows the world that you are at the top of your industry and are able to enjoy the finer things in life.

We have put together a list of 5 reasons that it rocks to drive a Ferrari.

5. Racing Pedigree

Enzo Ferrari was famously known for saying that his company sells street cars to fund the company’s racing teams. Racing is a huge part of what they do and historically where would Formula 1 be without Ferrari?

Even for their road cars racing is beneficial. There have been plenty of technologies that were pioneered on the track and then moved over to their street cars. Plus with their also competing in endurance racing they have been able to build more reliable cars as of late (which was not always the case with their cars).

4. The Ferrari Sound

The exhaust sound of a Ferrari is very distinct and is like a symphony to the ears. In their V12 models this is taken to the next level, but even their V8s have a wonderful tone. The sound is higher pitched than say an American muscle car, but not hollow like a Japanese tuned vehicle.

It is just a very pleasant sound that makes the driver feel like they are on the track, even when just cruising on the highway. It begs you to go a bit faster and rewards you when you do (just remember we don’t advocate speeding, so watch the speed limit on public roads).

3. Economic Stature

Few other things tell people that you are a man of means quite like owing a Ferrari. Even if you buy an older more affordable model, most people will think you payed at least $150,000 for the car. This also gives people the impression that you are successful at what you do and owning a prancing horse can even raise your stock in some companies.

2. Breathtaking Italian Styling

Ferrari has made some if the most iconic and beautiful cars ever. Pininfarina is responsible for many of these wonderful designs. The lines are uniques and beautiful while still giving the impressions of speed.

When you see a Ferrari it looks like it is driving fast even when parked. However, unlike their neighbor Lamborghini, the styling is never over the top or vulgar. They are truly a work of art that could easily be on display at a top gallery.

1. Ferrari’s Exotic Performance

A Ferrari is a true Italian exotic sports car. Even with the great styling and it being a status symbol there is still one main reason to buy one of these Italian machines. Simply put, performance. Over the years most cars wearing a prancing horse were among the fastest that you can purchase.

The performance of these cars can only truly be appreciated on a track. That is the only real opportunity to see what their sports cars can do. The few that are brave enough to track a Ferrari know just how amazing these cars really are when driven at the limit (just don’t wreck it or you will get a very large bill).

Ferraris, McLarens, Porsches, Lamborghinis and More Were on Display at Pebble Beach

As you probably know this past week was Monterey Car Week. The time of year when the Monterey area is full of very expensive cars. So many top notch cars are on the road the many Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborghinis become almost as common as Hondas.

The week all comes to a close with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This is the top car show in the world and many companies choose the event to launch their new high end cars. Many debuts are invite only, such as the world debut of the McLaren P1 GTR.

The vintage automobiles in the Concours are stunning, but so are the displays that manufactures setup and the Concept Lawn is always a top attraction. This year McLaren and Ferrari had displays, however Porsche did not have their usual display at Pebble Beach as they were on display at Leguna Seca instead. However, the German performance car maker did make sure to put their 918 Spyder hybrid supercar on display at the event.

We have put together a short video made up of images from the Concept Lawn and Manufacture’s displays. Take a minute to watch it and then let us know which car is your favorite.
