Ferrari California T Debuts At Geneva

By   March 5, 2014

Ferrari California T

Ferrari California T

The Ferrari California T made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The Italian sports car has been one of the stars of the yearly automotive show.

The styling of the GT cruiser is very clean and modern. With features such as the headlights being similar to other recent Ferraris, the car looks like it belongs in the model lineup.

Of course for the California T the big news is under the hood. The T is an important thing as it stands for turbocharged. This then means that the V8 engine gets forced induction which should put a big smile on its driver’s face.

The car is perfect for a Sunday drive and yet, when you decide to step on the gas few cars will be able to keep up with you.

Ferris Bueller Ferrari California Spyder Up For Auction In Monterey

Ferrari California Spyder Replica from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Ferrari California Spyder Replica from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

The Ferrari California Spyder is an incredible and rare car. Because of how rare the car is for the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off a replica was built. The famed replica will be up for auction as part of the Pebble Beach Automotive Week. The car will be auctioned off by Mecum Auctions along with 750 other collector vehicles.

This car is one of three cars used in the filming of the movie and may be the only one still in existence. Normally replicas don’t get a huge amount of money at auction, but for a car used in an iconic movie it may fetch a decent price.

How much do you think the Ferrari California Spyder replica will fetch at auction? Let us know in the comments below.

Press Release

Mecum Auctions will offer more than 750 classic and collector vehicles at the fifth annual Daytime Auction at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey this weekend, and among the hefty and impressive lineup is a true celebrity. The famed Ferrari California Spyder Replica from the ‘80s classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” will cross the block on Saturday as Lot S163.

As the actual car used in the filming of the movie, it was built by Neil Glassmoyer of Modena Design and Development to perfectly suit the vision of Director John Hughes. One of only three built for the filming of the movie, this might be the only surviving example.

“They gave us four weeks to build the movie cars,” recalls Glassmoyer. “I always say we built two and a half cars; two were interchangeably used as Hero and stunt cars and one was a rolling fiberglass shell that was used in the destruction scene. This car was actually intended for the stunt work, but both saw action, and both wound up with broken front suspension bolts because the big jump scene took nine takes between the two cars.”

Fully restored by Glassmoyer, this movie-star car is now being offered directly from the original builder at The Mecum Daytime Auction in Monterey this Saturday, Aug. 17. Glassmoyer himself will be onsite and available for interviews and to answer questions about the car.

Mecum’s Monterey auction will open daily at 8 a.m. Portions of all three days will be broadcast live on Discovery’s Velocity Network, and as always, Mecum will present a live stream of the entire auction at www.mecum.com. Mecum’s website is updated each day with the latest consignments including detailed descriptions and photographs of the vehicles. To view the list for the Monterey auction or for more information, visit www.mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.
