Power to weight ratio is what will win a race, correct? If that is true then it would seem that the lightweight Caterham 7 should dust the Porsche Cayman S in a drag race.
After all the 7 weighs so little that even though the engine puts out a fraction of the horsepower that the Cayman does, it should be much quicker. Having said this the Caterham is not exactly the most aerodynamic shape and the technology is very old school.
The Porsche on the other hand uses its mid-engine layout and technology to its advantage. The layout really helps in the corners, but will it get much traction off the line?
In this vide evo pits the two sports cars against each other in a drag race. Who do you think will win? Let us know in the comments and then watch the video to see if you were correct.
Chris Harris, a Morgan Three Wheeler and a Caterham Seven
Chris Harris recently was able to checkout the Morgan Three Wheeler and Caterham Seven. The two lightweight cars have pretty much no weather protection which is interesting when you consider that they are both British and Great Britain isn’t known for great weather. Both cars have a similar concept, but they are designed for different uses.
The Morgan is missing a wheel in the back, which gives it loads of character. The car reminds you of something that one would drive in the 1930s. It just has a classic feel and is all about the driving experience. The car would be scary to drive over 80 mph, but at normally driving speeds puts a big smile on your face. The car also will put a smile on everyone’s face that sees you driving past.
The Caterham is just a pure simple sports car. The lightweight car is all about performance and it rewards a driver’s skill. Because of the lack of mass the car is able to handle well and gives you quite a rush of acceleration. It is a car that just begs you to drive it a bit faster. The Seven is a perfect track day car and will keep you happy the whole day.
In this video Chris drives both cars on the road and gives his take on the cars. He also hints that he may purchase one of these two sports cars for his own garage.
Comparing a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and a Caterham Supersport seems like a what is the point comparison. Well, the folks over at evo figured that they would do a track comparison of the two vehicles. The reason they thought the comparison was fair is that the power to weight ratio of the two cars is very close.
Now the Cayenne Turbo S is quite a SUV that is able to defy physics. However, the center of gravity is much higher than the much lower Caterham which should give it an advantage on the track. So, which car is the better track toy? Check out the video to find out.
