The mid-engined Porsche Boxster is a very practical sports car. It features two trunks and Porsche thought through just about everything. This includes making maintenance fairly easy. Including making it easy to change the serpentine belt. Unlike some other cars with the engine in the middle (like the Ferrari F355), Porsche doesn’t require that the engine get removed.
Below are the steps to change the serpentine belt in a Porsche Boxster or Cayman. We did this on a 986 Boxster, but the steps should be similar on the 987 Boxster / Cayman and even the 981 Boxster / Cayman.
I was recently approached by a coworker asking if I knew if a taller person can drive a Porsche 356 comfortably. He is about 6’4” tall and enjoys motorcycles and wants to get into sports cars. He is hoping to purchase a classic 356 coupe.
He mentioned that he wasn’t sure if such a small car would fit him. He knows that I’ve had the chance to drive all of Porsche’s modern sports car lineup and that my daily driver is an early Porsche Boxster. His opinion of the Boxster is that he definitely couldn’t fit into it, but this is all based on the outside appearance and not sitting inside.
The 2018 Ford Mustang GT starts at $35,190, but when optioned up the price tag can rise to $53,000. That’s a lot of money, but then the Mustang GT does offer 460 horsepower. The question is, should you purchase a we’ll optioned GT for that price?
For $53,000 you get into the price range of a few different high performance cars.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 in many ways is the best high performance car for the street. It has plenty of usable power with 385 horses, is fairly lightweight by today’s standards, the engine is in the middle and it has suspension parts from the 911 GT3. The Cayman GT4 provides a race car for the street experience that doesn’t need a track to enjoy.
For those fortunate enough to buy the GT4 before it sold out (and not including the massive dealer markup), for about the price of a base 911 Carrera, you could get the GT4 with 35 more horsepower, mid-engined balance and more aggressive styling.
Yes, the Cayman GT4 is an excellent car, but can it be made just a bit better?
The desnorkel modification is a very popular one for owners of Porsche Boxsters and Caymans. The mod can be done on 986, 987 and 981 generation cars. Some claim that it is a free way to add horsepower to your Porsche Boxster or Cayman.
But does removal of the snorkel actually add any horsepower?
