Summer is almost officially upon us and that means cars shows. Sure, there are plenty of Cars and Coffee events that you can see great cars, but the competition car shows are now well underway.

For us the car show season starts with the Cruisin’ Morro Bay Car Show. Of course if we were on the east coast Amelia Island is the show that starts things off, but that is all the way on the other side of the country. For us it starts in Morro Bay and all the car shows lead to the “grand daddy” of them all, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Porsche Or Ferrari, Which Is Faster?

Just last week Ferrari revealed the Ferrari 488 Pista and Porsche unveiled the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS. These track oriented machines boast extremely good performance figures that rival each other.

For these two machines the Italian sports car maker gains the advantage. The 488 Pista can spring from 0-60 mph in 2.85 seconds for the Ferrari, where the 911 GT3 RS takes 3.0 seconds to reach the same mark. Top speed also goes to the Italian as the German car can only hit 193 mph, but the Italian can go all the way up to 211 mph.

Porsche and Ferrari may be two very different companies, but each have made some of the fastest cars you can buy. Let’s take a look at some of the cars that were the fastest available for each marquee.

The Rolex 24 finished up the action yesterday and it was certainly one of the more interesting races in recent memory. The GT Classes were very tight and the Prototypes further provided plenty of drama.

This past weekend was the 54th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Plenty can happen in a 24 hour endurance race and quite a bit did happened. Many machines in the GT classes looked like they had the race well in hand when many fans headed to bed. However, by the morning most of these cars were either out of the race or well back in the pack.

The GTLM and GTD classes featured new race cars from Audi, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari and Ford. Some showed promise, but many suffered from accidents or mechanical failure.

The Rolex 24 may start in just a few hours, but on January 29th the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R-C managed its first victory at Daytona International Raceway. The race opened the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season and it started the way that Ford wanted. Not only did they win the race, but they managed a 1-2 finish.

Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell piloted the winning GT350R-C for the third victory by the competition version of the GT350 in the series (the first of the new season). The battle for first became between the two Mustangs when the Porsche of top challenger Matt Plumb had fuel pump issues forcing him out of the race.
