When you think of American supercars, there are a handful of cars that come to mind. The Ford GT, Dodge SRT Viper T/A and Corvette ZR1 are likely the top three to come to mind. Of course all of these are out of reach of many of us, but there are a couple of American supercars that are now very affordable thanks to good old fashioned depreciation.

Specifically the 1994 Dodge Viper and the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. There are a few more years of each that will have similar specs and / or market values, but we are going to focus on these years to keep the numbers simple.

The Dodge Viper from the very beginning was an insane supercar. The first generation 1991-1995 car, thanks in part to the 400 horsepower V10, could launch from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.

The early Viper followed the model of the Shelby A/C Cobra roadster. Put a big engine in a fairly lightweight roadster (3,284 lb.) and you have a road legal rocket.

We’ll give you just a moment to let you settle down after reading the title. Yes, Dodge has unveiled their new 2019 Dodge Challenger lineup and the big news is the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. The Redeye gets very close to the performance of the Demon in a package that will keep up with many modern supercars.

To make things better, the SRT Hellcat Redeye is not just about straight line speed. Especially in the widebody variant it can do pretty well on the track. We’ve driven the previous generation of the Hellcat on the track and it was no slouch, but the Redeye takes that up to an 11.
