The Maserati Ghibli is the most affordable Maserati that you can buy new. The car offers very good performance from a twin-turbocharged V6. It is at home being driven quickly, but it does so with some sacrifices.

The ride is harsh when you are just wanting to drive around town and the steering offers much less feel than you would like. These two combined with a traction control system that seems confused at time lets down the otherwise good driving experience.

However, there is a bright side to the Ghibli.

As part of Monterey Car Week Motor Trend is having a week of classic car episodes on their most popular YouTube programs. The first of these shows is Ingnition and in the special episode it features a 1967 Maserati Ghibli.

The Ghibli is often compared to the Lamborghini Muria and Ferrari Daytona. However, those two cars are V12 powered machines that are closer to pure sports cars and the Ghibli is a V8 GT cruiser.

The Maserati is more relaxed than its Italian cousins, but it still has a nice feeling when driving it and has a great sound. It won’t be the king of the drag racers, but it will get you places in style and comfort.

Watch this video with the 1967 Ghibli and learn a bit more about this car and what it is like to drive. One of the best things is it is possibly the most reliable high-end Italian sports car from its era.

Question: What Do You Think Of The Maserati Ghibli?

During the Super Bowl there were a number of big budget commercials, as there are every year. Automakers are often a big advertiser during the event with most of the commercials featuring more affordable vehicles.

There were a few higher prices vehicles that were advertised, including Jaguar, Audi and Maserati. It is the Maserati ad that caught me most by surprise as I had not heard that they were planning to advertise.

The commercial was for their new mid-sized performance sedan the Maserati Maserati Ghibli. The ad was the first opportunity for many to be introduced to the car and we were wondering what people thought of the Italian car.

So, what do you think of the Maserati Maserati Ghibli? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The Maserati Quattoporte was one of the fist true performance sedans. The four-door Italian car has exotic car performance, but in a package that can haul around an adverage sized family. The biggest downside to the Quatroporte has been the high price.

This year Maserati decided to fix that by introducing the Ghibli. The mid-sized sedan can give you Italian style that starts at a more modestly priced $65,000 (yes it is still pricey).

For that price the Italian sedan is powered by a twin turbocharged V6 engine that puts out 404 horsepower. This allows for one to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and you can keep going all the way up to 176 mph.

The Italian performance car maker is about to turn 100 years old and it is the companies four-door models that have given it some good financial stability.

Press Release

On the eve of its 100-year anniversary, Maserati is in the strongest position of its lifetime with two brand new sport-sedans, state-of-the- art production facilities and all-time record breaking sales numbers.

An unprecedented future for Maserati is being thrust by the all-new mid-size Ghibli, which drove a 319% sales increase for Maserati over the same month last year, with 910 Maserati’s retailed in November 2013. Behind this performance, every significant sales record maintained by Maserati has been broken.

“A new era of accessibility with iconic Maserati pedigree is here as the mid-size Ghibli, starting at $65,600 is no longer a plan of ours, but a proud purchase by many” commented Peter Grady, President and CEO of Maserati North America, Inc. “We welcome a new generation of Maserati owners who are as inspired as we are by this ‘The Absolute Opposite of Ordinary’ car.”

Italian design and premium materials inside and out define the coupé-like Ghibli, a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine built by Ferrari producing up to 404 HP, propels it. The Ghibli accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 176 MPH (S Q4). While recently, The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety named the 2014 Maserati Ghibli a Top Safety Pick after the all-new Italian sport sedan achieved the highest-possible score in each of four tests.

Meanwhile, the full-size Quattroporte sedan available with over 500 HP in GTS trim, or with advanced S Q4 All-Wheel-Drive continued its unprecedented growth, contributing mightily to the record month of sales. Continuing its expansion, the Maserati dealer network has reached 78 across North America and the brand has taken aim at 100 as another milestone of growth, and class leading customer care.
