At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed the new Mercedes-AMG GT R made its world debut. The street legal car is powerful and fast, but it is the sound that turns most heads. The exhaust sound is very loud and it crackles when downshifting.
The styling looks very similar to the standard GT, but in a more aggressive form. This is largely thanks to its aerodynamic features and the large rear wing. It also features active aerodynamics.
Last week Nissan pulled the covers off of the new 2017 GT-R. The high performance car is more powerful, has a reworked exterior and upgraded interior.
The GT-R now offers 565 horsepower which is 20 horses more than the outgoing model. Inside you can now get Nappa leather, a revised front seat design, simplified switch layout and NissanConnectSM with Navigation, Mobile Apps and Services.
At one time many thought that vehicles produced from Japanese car companies were pieces of junk. That perception has largely changed and now these same automakers produce some very dependable cars.
Beyond daily drivers they all make some very good performance cars. These range from the Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster to the supercar beating Nissan GT-R. Without further hesitation we announce our nominees for our Import Car of the Year.
This past weekend Nissan had just about as good a weekend as one can have in racing. In the three classes that the Japanese car maker was competing as part of the Pirelli World Challenge they managed eight podium finishes.
The cars that raced in the classes were the GT-R, Altima 3.5 and 370Z. The results also highlighted some of the talent that the company has found through their GT Academy.
