Just its name is enough to make other sports cars tremble in their boots and now it is even faster. The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS builds on the success of past GT3 RS models. It is faster and yet in a turbocharged world it continues to use a naturally aspirated flat-six (and there was much rejoicing).

For those that can pay the price (and it is up there), the 991.2 GT3 RS provides a track focused machine that can also be driven on the road. When we say track focused we mean track focused. A look on the inside will tell you all you need to know with the lack of back seats and the full bucket seats with carbon fiber reinforced backrests. Door opening loops and reduced sound deadening help enforce that this is a car made for a single purpose.

With the pre-718 Porsche Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4, Porsche showed that they were getting more serious about their non-911 sports cars. At the time the Cayman sat above the Boxster in the model lineup. With the introduction of the 718 Boxster and Cayman the Boxster moved slightly ahead of the Cayman in the pecking order costing a bit more just as the 911 Cabriolet sits above the Carrera.

Coming into the Bathurst 12 Hours the defending Liqui-Moly team hoped that their McLaren 650S GT3 would manage a repeat victory. But as we all know endurance racing can be a cruel mistress.

The race started out with great difficulty for the #1 650S GT3 as the team quickly fell back in the second hour with engine issues. The problem cost three laps making a top finish unlikely.

However, if you have the cash for a new Porsche then the cars in this series are not for you (with a few exceptions). These are cars for someone that is wanting to get their first Porsche, but they don’t want it to break the bank. All of them can be had for under $30,000 with some being as low as about $5,000 for a running car in decent condition.

With a lower budget a buyer is likely to want a car that they can do the routine maintenance themselves.
