When we had our opportunity to drive the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R at Laguna Seca it blew us away. It was powerful, but managed to handle very well thanks in part to its suspension setup. But most of all it was a track beast.

Comparing it to the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is an apples to oranges comparison. The Hellcat may offer 707 horsepower, but it can also easily be dialed back for an enjoyable long ride. The GT350R is ready for the track at all times and as such provides an uncompromising ride no matter where you drive it.

It is hard to believe it but we are already coming to the time of the year when automobile publication choose their cars of the year. Road and Track is one of the first to announce their selection for Performance Car of the Year.

This year’s selection for the award was the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R. The track ready variant of the American pony car can hold its own against many more exotic machines.

You may remember that not very long ago we had an opportunity to experience the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R. The American performance car is powered by a flat-plane crankshaft V8 engine that offers 526 horsepower.

The track focused machine is a true driver’s car with its traditional manual transmission. Beyond this the ride that now includes rear independent suspension feels right at home even in a tight corner.
