The Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R is a track focused car. The high revving V8 has flat-plane crankcase that you can take all the way up to 8,200 RPMs.

The 526 horsepower output makes the performance very good, but it is the independent rear suspension that makes a huge difference in handling. Around Laguna Seca’s infamous corkscrew it makes all the difference.

Who doesn’t love the Ford Mustang? And who doesn’t love the idea of 526HP and 0-60 in fast (official specs haven’t yet been released)? Well, Ford has thought of everything with their newest Shelby Mustang GT350. The car is beautiful with the new body and better aerodynamics, but it’s not just a nice car because of its looks. When you push the ignition button (I sure do miss the turn of a key) the engine roars to life and proves it’s not just a cute little pony like my first mustang from the 90’s.

This last week I was able to drool over the car and drive the GT350R on the track at Laguna Seca Speedway. Everything is new on the GT350 (except the steering column) and that includes the independent rear suspension. I was so thankful Ford switched out the live axle when my hotlap included the infamous Corkscrew. There was no sliding around on the track. Turns were smooth. The wheels kept traction and I didn’t have any near death experiences.

We recent had the chance to experience the new Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R at Laguna Seca. We got an idea of just how well the new ‘Stang could handle on the famed road course.

The track focused machine offers 526 horsepower from a 5.2-liter V8 engine designed with a flat-plane crankshaft. This new car is a huge improvement on a circuit over previous models as handling is much improved thanks to the new suspension setup.

The first Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R has been built and will soon make its way to its lucky owner. The car was produced at Ford’s Flat Rock assembly plant.

The new GT350R looks to be the most complete street legal yet track focused ‘Stang to be produced. With its advanced suspensions setup and high-revving flat-plane V8 the Shelby will be able to keep up with plenty of cars that cost much more.

The new Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R-C is the most track capable ‘Stang ever built. After the competition car was announced, there has been much anticipation to see this thing go head to head with other performance machines.

The first chance that we will get to see the GT350R-C hit the track is at Watkins Glenn. It will take to the track as part of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series this weekend.
