Many Porsche enthusiasts were very disappointed when the news was first announced that the German performance car maker would be building a SUV. After all the crest was meant for a sports car and that does not describe any vehicle with four doors, especially an SUV.

To make matters worse for these purists it didn’t stop at the Cayenne. No, the Panamera was next and most recently the Macan. All three offer great levels of performance and incredible engineering, but are they true Porsches?

Porsche Cars North America 2016 July Sales See An 18 Percent Sales Drop Compared To Last July

Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) has had a very good first six months with consistent strong sales. This is why it is newsworthy when the brand sees a sales drop of 18 percent in one of Porsche’s most important markets. Even with the drop PCNA has seen a 2.4 percent increase in sales year to date compared to the same period last year.

In total 3,878 cars were sold by U.S. Porsche dealers in July, 2016. Cayenne sales were the largest, but even so they saw a drop of just over 400 sales compared to last July. The biggest sales looser for the month was the Macan with sales decreasing by over 600 vehicles when compared to July, 2015.

The Porsche Macan Gets The GTS Treatment

Porsche has announced the new Macan GTS. The compact SUV will get the GTS treatment which means a bit better performance and some optional items made standard over lower trimmed cars.

It is interesting to watch as the German performance car maker has added the once sacred GTS badge to each model in its current lineup. The GTS versions of each model are some of the best available and they are a good value compared to other optioned up models. But does having the GTS badge on the non-sports cars dilute it? Has it now become just a trim level or is it still special?
