For Nissan enthusiasts, it doesn’t get much better than seeing the NISMO designation on a car. Both the 370Z NISMO and GT-R NISMO are crazy powerful and fast cars. Now the Japanese automaker is giving another model the NISMO treatment.

The 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO is a more driver focused version of the company’s popular sedan. The higher performance Sentra gets a turbocharger to help it make a bit more power.

This past weekend was a very good one for Nissan in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS). The race that took place in rain soaked Imola finished with the final portion of the competition under safety car conditions.

In the wet four hour endurance race TDS Racing and United Autosports took home victories in the LM P2 and LM P3 classes. Of the top ten vehicles finishing the race nine of the ten where powered by Nissan.

At one time many thought that vehicles produced from Japanese car companies were pieces of junk. That perception has largely changed and now these same automakers produce some very dependable cars.

Beyond daily drivers they all make some very good performance cars. These range from the Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster to the supercar beating Nissan GT-R. Without further hesitation we announce our nominees for our Import Car of the Year.

Nissan Sidelines The GT-R LM NISMO To Fix Technical Issues From Le Mans

For Nissan this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans did not go as planned. GT-R LM NISMO had one large issue that kept it from being competitive and because of that they are pulling out of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) until it’s fixed.

The problem was that the energy recovery system (ERS) failed and because of this the car could only rely on the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine. The lack of the ERS kept the car, that competes in the LM P1 category, from keeping up with race car from the likes of Porsche and Audi. Beyond the competitive disadvantage the fact that the system was not working correctly caused many of the car’s other systems to be compromised.

Nissan GT Academy Finalists Driving the Nissan 370Z NISMO

Yesterday, we told you that the Nissan GT Academy was holding this year’s United States finals. The program that looks for promising drivers through virtual racing has found some pretty good competitors so far.

The event that was held in Nashville, Tennessee took the top 20 drivers from on-line Gran Turismo 6 races. Over 30,000 people entered the GT Academy, these are very good drivers, at least on a video game. After a day of virtual track time, the entrants were put through physical tests and then were given some time on a real-world circuit.
