Lamborghini Debuts The Asterion LPI 910-4 Plug-In Hybrid In Paris

By   October 2, 2014

Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4

At the Paris Motor Show Lamborghini debuted the Asterion LPI 910-4. The supercar concept is a high performance plug-in hybrid. The raging bull has been slow to jump on the hybrid bandwagon, with brands like Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren already producing hybrid supercars before this concept.

However, thanks to other company’s using the new hybrid technologies Lamborghini was forced to start working on a hybrid. The concept is very fast and powerful and will likely be a hit if they decide to build it.

The styling of the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 is somewhat different than most modern cars from the Italian sports car maker. Since the ’70s most of their cars have been very angular. The sharp lines are part of what differentiates a Lambo.

However, the Asterion has very smooth curves and not as many harsh angles. The body flows with smooth lines from front to back giving the concept car the look that it had jumped off a piece of the designer’s paper. The large side air intakes let people know that this hybrid means business and the sloped back helps continue the sculpted lines to the back.

With the way the rear window is sloped, this may be the modern Lamborghini with the best rear visibility. The smoother lines give it a more understated look as opposite to that of say an Aventador.

The interior of the new hybrid concept looks to be made of good quality materials. It is has plenty of Leather and suede touches. The inside manages to have a very simple look to it. There is no large center console that takes over the space. It looks to be driver focused with not much else to take away from the driving experience.

At the heart of the Asterion LPI 910-4 plug-in hybrid concept is a naturally aspirated 5.2 liter V10 engine. That already powerful unit is then combined with three electric motors that, when they all work together, can put out 910 horsepower.

All this power equates to a 0-62 mph time of 3 seconds flat and it can keep going to a top speed of 198 mph. The Lamborghini also has an all-wheel drive system which helps it keep traction even when driven to the edge.

This is a concept that shows that Lamborghini is finally going to try and catchup to other sports car makers. Thanks in part to government regulations hybrids appear to be the future and the raging bull was getting left behind. We think that they should build this car, although it will probably look a bit different before making it to production (we think it will be a little more angular).
