Mercedes is planning a change for their SLK lineup that should hit in model year 2018. As the German luxury car maker introduces the new little brother to the SL lineup, they are planning to differentiate it between the past SLK cars.

Because of this reports have the new lineup using the SLC designation. The new SLC will be built on a new shareable platform to the SL car. This should make for an even better performing car and provide some cost savings to the company.

New Mercedes SLK 250 or Used Porsche Boxster (986)

One would not necessarily think about comparing a new Mercedes SLK 250 and a used Porsche Boxster (986). But when you start to look at them closer you realize that they are actually quite comparable.

Both are sports cars that allow for wind in your hair driving. There 0-60 mph times are nearly identical and they both have the same amount of horsepower.

The big differences are the engine layout, and engine size as well as the Mercedes offering newer technology. The SLK 250 is also quite a bit more expensive, but being new it comes with a warranty.

So, which would you choose, the new Mercedes SLK 250 or the used Porsche Boxster (986)?

The Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 is a fun to drive roadster. It features a hardtop that at the push of a button goes into the trunk and gives you the option to have the wind in your hair.

It may not be the quickest car with a 0-60 mph time of just 6.5 seconds, but that is still plenty quick to keep up with modern traffic and past most sedans.

Its 1.8-liter inline four is turbocharged and manages to put out 201 horsepower. By today’s high standards this isn’t much, but it still provides enough power to make the drive very fun. Plus, it helps it get decent fuel economy when not being pushed.

This video features a 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 that we captured resting. The footage shows off the styling of the good looking German sports car.
