The new Porsche 911 GT3 (991) looks like quite a car. EVO got a chance to drive the new rear-engined supercar on both the road and track. The new fire breathing car is capable of frightening performance on the track. The 991 is a bigger car than previous 911s, but it doesn’t feel too big when driving it on the road.
To give a reference point EVO compares the 991 GT3 against the McLaren 12C on the track and the Nissan GT-R on the road. Both of those cars are some of the best in their classes, but is the GT3 close to those? Beyond this comparison the below video talks about the difference from previous GT3s and discusses what has been gained or lost in the new version.

The 2013 SRT Viper is a great performing American sports car. The quality of the latest model is much improved from the older Vipers, but it still compromises on nothing (including driver comfort) over performance. It is a beast that has to be grabbed by the neck in order to make perform well on the track.
Many magazines have put the sports car through its paces, including Motor Trend. In this video you can watch as they test the car on the track and closed roads or parking lots. The car is interesting in the footage, but this is actually more about how they get all the data for the testing. There is also a bit about how to get the best launch out of the car which is very interesting to watch.
Watch the video and then let us know what you think of how they gather all the data for the car in the comments below.
Earlier today we posted a video that talked about if you should by a Lotus Evora S or a Porsche Cayman S. The video argued that you should buy the Evora even though the Cayman is the more precision tool. Both cars are great in their own way, but choosing between them most people are likely to go the German route for various reasons.
Well, we found this video that actually pits the two sports cars against each other on the track. Both cars are driven on the same track with the same driver to get a lap time and see which of the sports cars is the better performer. In the test the Porsche has a bit of an advantage with its PDK transmission over the Lotus six-speed manual. However, the Evora has more horsepower, but looses on the weight front.
Which one of these track performers would you rather drive? Let us know in the comments below.
Comparing a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and a Caterham Supersport seems like a what is the point comparison. Well, the folks over at evo figured that they would do a track comparison of the two vehicles. The reason they thought the comparison was fair is that the power to weight ratio of the two cars is very close.
Now the Cayenne Turbo S is quite a SUV that is able to defy physics. However, the center of gravity is much higher than the much lower Caterham which should give it an advantage on the track. So, which car is the better track toy? Check out the video to find out.
The new Porsche 911 (991) GT3 is a focused driver’s car that looks to be very fast. The naturally aspirated sports car will put out 475 horsepower and all that power is mated to a seven-speed PDK transmisson that will shift faster than any human ever could (I’ll save my lament for the traditionalmanual transmission). The car should be a monster on the track and will keep up with more expensive sports cars.
Porsche has been doing pre-production testing of the new GT3 recently at the Nurburgring. This video captures the German sports car being driven quickly around the track. It captures the exhaust note and you can see how well it handles on the corners. It is a short video, but it sure makes me itch to get behind the wheel of one.
