Video: Two Ferrari LaFerraris Caught Testing

By   September 16, 2013

Two Ferrari LaFerraris

Two Ferrari LaFerraris

The Ferrari LaFerrari (I’ll give you a second to chuckle at the name) looks like it will be a seriously fast hybrid supercar. The car can put out as much as 963 horsepower when the V12 gas powered engine works together with the electric motors. This will be a very fast car and one that may be able to best the Porsche 918 Spyder’s recent track record for a street legal car at the Nurburgring.

This video captures two LaFerraris testing on the Fiorano race track. The sound of the cars is music to the ears and these prototypes look like they are ready to go out and race. Thanks to the Formula One based technology these hybrids are actually fairly light weight vehicles with a whole lot of power to rocket them. Full performance specifications have not yet been released, but a 0 to 60 mph time of around 2 seconds flat seems like a very real possibility.

Video: What New Porsche 911 Has Been Testing At The Nurburgring

New Porsche 911 (991) Tests at the Nurburgring

New Porsche 911 (991) Tests at the Nurburgring

A new Porsche 911 (991) has been caught on video testing at the Nurburgring recently. The car is wearing camouflage, but closely resembles a 991 Carrera. It does appear to be a faster car than the Carrera S and some are saying that it sounds like it is turbocharged.

This video shows the car driving on the famed track. But, what kind of 911 is it? It could be a 991 Carrera GTS, GT2 (if it is a GT2 it would just be the engine getting tested we are also not sure how it is getting enough air to the intercooler without the intakes in the body) or perhaps something else.

Check out the video and then let us know what kind of 911 you think is in the video in the comments.

Update 9-6-2013: According to insider information provided by Robert in the comments, this is in fact the 991 GTS. Thanks Robert for getting the inside information for us.

Video: McLaren P1 Undergoes Desert Testing

The McLaren P1 in the Desert

The McLaren P1 in the Desert

These days even our supercars are expected to perform well in all conditions. At one time it was considered normal to have a sports car overheat on a hot day or when sitting in traffic, but those days are over. With people expecting to have more reliable high performance cars manufactures need to make sure to put these cars through their paces.

Recently, McLaren has been doing some desert testing of the new P1. The plugin hybrid is being tested in extreme temperatures to make sure it can handle these conditions. With such a technically advanced car there are a lot of systems that could go wrong and when you are selling a car for over $1 million people are going to want it to work.

This video shows the supercar testing in the desert and being put through its paces. The British sports car maker is working hard to get ready as customer deliveries are scheduled for the end of this month. It is rumored that Jay Leno will take deliver of the first production car.

Check out the video and then let us know what you think of the McLaren P1 in the comments.

Press Release

The testing programme for the McLaren P1™ has continued at a relentless pace throughout the summer, and in the latest short film from McLaren Automotive, the production-intent McLaren P1™ is shown testing in some of the harshest and most challenging conditions. With first deliveries scheduled in the coming weeks, the development team have been pushing the limits of the car to further extremes across North America, in some of the hottest and most arid conditions on the planet.

Finished all in Carbon Black, the sleek and menacing-looking McLaren P1™ is captured on the road undisguised for the first time, working through a number of final durability tests before the first of the limited run of 375 models is delivered to customers. The extreme temperature testing saw the McLaren P1™ pushed to the limits, experiencing heat in excess of 52°C / 126°F through Arizona, California and Nevada, as the western coast of America experienced some of the hottest temperatures on record.

The McLaren P1™ is the culmination of 50 years of race-winning technology and expertise, and is proudly described as ‘everything the company has ever done’. From the outset, the goal for the McLaren P1™ was clear: to be the best driver’s car on road and track. For this reason, the hot weather testing programme has not been confined only to the challenging road surfaces of America’s west coast, as the team push the boundaries of all systems and components on track in blistering heat.

Throughout the hot weather testing phase, and the development programme as a whole, McLaren Automotive has worked closely with its technical partners to develop and engineer bespoke products and solutions for a car that challenges what has been produced previously, redefining the boundaries for high performance cars. Through close collaboration with Akebono and Pirelli, the levels of performance and capabilities of the McLaren P1™ are optimised. The bespoke braking system and tyres are among the most advanced of any road car ever produced.

September is the 50th anniversary of McLaren, and will see the first deliveries of the McLaren P1™ commencing in the coming weeks as celebrations continue.

The car is going to come into the market first and then meet some stiff competition with the Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. However, with its up to 887 horsepower it should be able to compete pretty well with these cars.

With the release date getting closer the 918 Spyder has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring. This video shows footage of the new supercar driving at speed at the famed track. The footage captures the sound and speed of the hybrid. Show this video to your friends that choose to drive a Prius and they will see what a hybrid should be like.

A Project Nissan 370Z And A 1970 Datsun 240Z Battle On The Track – Video

By   April 19, 2013

The Nissan 370Z owes its roots to the Datsun 240Z. In its day the Datsun 240Z was a fantastic sports car that really started the whole Japanese sports car craze in the United States. However, a 40 year old car can’t really keep up with all the technology in a new Nissan 370Z.

This video doesn’t pit two stock cars against each other. No, both cars are modified for better performance and one would think that even with mods the new car would win hands down. However, the 70’s sports car has had a heart transplant and features a newer RB26 engine under the hood.

Can a heavily modified older car keep up with a newer performance car? Checkout the video to find out.
